Solent Branch of the Royal Aeronautical Society

The Royal Aeronautical Society

The Royal Aeronautical Society is "the one multidisciplinary professional institution dedicated to the global aerospace community". The RAeS is the world's only professional body which caters for the entire aerospace community.

Throughout the world's aerospace community the name of The Royal Aeronautical Society is both well known and well respected. Indeed, the RAeS is justifiably proud of its members' range of disciplines, not just engineers and pilots, but also doctors, legal specialists, bankers, air traffic controllers, cabin crew, marketers, journalists, etc. Anybody who is a professional within the aerospace industry can belong to the RAeS and indeed many of them do. The aerospace industry is global and The Royal Aeronautical Society reflects this. Although centred in the United Kingdom, it has members in almost 100 countries worldwide.

14th-May-2008:
Colin van Geffen

For our May lecture, we are pleased to return to the Solent Sky aviation museum. Colin van Geffen recalls the Golden Years of the commercial flying boat era, when Southampton and its Empire flying boats led the world. From the beginnings in 1913 to the swansong in the 50s and later.

Solent Branch

Branches are the regional embodiment of the Royal Aeronautical Society. They represent a vital mechanism for the delivery of membership benefits and provide a global platform for the dissemination of aerospace information.

The objects and responsibility of each Branch is to supplement locally the efforts of the Society: to support and maintain the highest professional standards in all aerospace disciplines; to provide a unique source of specialist information and a local forum for the exchange of ideas; and to exert influence in the interests of aerospace in both the public and industrial arenas. Branch events are open to all with a shared interest in aviation.

Non-members of the RAeS are encouraged to attend and will receive a warm welcome at all Branch lecture evenings.
